With CoolPulse™ Extrude Hone continues to solve some of the most complex deburring and surface finishing challenges faced by a wide range of industries including, medical, pharmaceutical, solar energy, precision instruments, electronics, and thousands of other delicate component parts producers. Our pulsed electrolytic technology called CoolPulse, offers manufacturers a new, cost-effective, and highly unique process for deburring, polishing, and cleaning virtually any small, thin, or complex component made from an electro conductive metallic material.

This revolutionary process performs five key functions all in one finishing process:

  • » Deburring
  • » Polishing
  • » Stress relief
  • » Cleaning, and passivation (removes free-iron particles)
As minimally invasive medical procedures become more widespread, smaller, delicate and more complex instruments are in greater demand. Because of this, deburring and finishing these parts becomes more of a challenge for manufacturers.

CoolPulse consistently provides superior finishing results with no stressing or deforming of the workpart and does it without the need of close tolerance conformal tooling. CoolPulse's rapid change over time, typically 10-30 minutes, provides manufacturers a highly cost-effective finishing solution for both high- and low-volume production runs. Average cycle times range from 15 sec up to 3 min, while small components typically take less than 15 sec. One of the greatest advantages of CoolPulse is the life cycle of the electrolytic solution. Over time the solution will not deteriorate and will likely seldom require changing, resulting in less waste disposal costs for the user.

At first glance CoolPulse may seem like traditional Electro Polishing (EP), in fact, it is very different. It removes unwanted material without harmful, corrosive compounds. This process utilizes a perfectly safe, chilled, non-fuming/odorless, near-neutral pH, solution versus some of the harmful, unstable compounds traditionally used in EP.

At microscopic levels, CoolPulse eliminates even the most minuscule of imperfections providing the smoothest of surfaces free of the flaws that are capable of harboring contaminates or pathogens. The process is also capable of removing very rough surfaces – Ra of 2.5μm to 5μm and producing ultra-smooth surfaces down to 0.1μm. While CoolPulse is optimized for edge effect, substantial surface and cleanliness improvements are a natural by-product of the process. In fact, it produces bright or mirror-like finishes on stainless steel and bright to matte finishes on aluminum.

CoolPulse produces superior finishing and cleanliness without compromising or stressing the structural and functional integrity of the component. It has the potential for an even wider application in the automotive and aerospace industries. Rather than in-depth, specialized and intensive EP training, CoolPulse operators can be trained in only a few hours, allowing you to put the process to work in your facility in much less time.

CoolPulse machines are available in a range of sizes and power capacities to suite your individual manufacturing needs and budgets. CoolPulse processing is also available as a contract finishing service through our Extrude Hone Contract Finishing Service Centers.
